🔧 Components of the System
Soapstone Housing
High thermal mass stone that absorbs and retains heat for long periods.
Insulated structure to minimize heat loss.
Internal ducts or air channels for circulation.
Infrared Heating Panel
Powered by electricity from solar panels.
Mounted inside the stove to heat the stone evenly.
Emits radiant heat directly into the soapstone core.
Photovoltaic Solar Panel
Generates electricity during daylight hours.
Connected to an inverter and optionally to a battery system for continuous operation.
Positioned outside in a sun-facing location.
Air Circulation Fan
Low-energy DC fan powered by the solar panel or battery.
Draws cool air from the room, passes it around the hot stone, and expels warm air back into the room.
Insulated Air Channels
Direct the air efficiently in and out of the soapstone unit.
Prevent unnecessary heat loss during circulation.
🏗️ How to Build the System
Construct the Soapstone Chamber
Use thick soapstone blocks (5–10 cm) to build a housing box or repurpose a traditional stove casing.
Ensure the internal cavity is large enough for airflow and the heating panel.
Install the Infrared Panel
Mount it securely to the inside wall of the soapstone chamber.
Make sure it has good contact with the stone for better heat transfer.
Connect the Solar Panel
Use a suitable solar panel (200–400W) with a charge controller.
Optionally include a battery for nighttime use.
Wire it to power both the infrared panel and the fan.
Install the Fan and Air Ducts
Place the fan near the air intake or outlet.
Create sealed ducts that allow air to pass around or through the heated stone.
Seal and Insulate the System
Use heat-resistant insulation around the outer casing.
Add a front glass window if you want radiant heat to escape directly.
🔥 Heat Retention Time
Soapstone retains heat for 6 to 12 hours after the infrared panel is turned off.
With good insulation and periodic solar recharge, the system can maintain warmth through the night or on cloudy days.
✅ Benefits
100% renewable energy – no wood or fossil fuels needed.
Silent, smoke-free operation.
Long-lasting and nearly maintenance-free.
Ideal for small homes, cabins, or off-grid living.
